What's your favorite movie?

Rent (2005)
Director: Chris Columbus

When I was 15, my family and I went to the US for the summer. While in New York, I dragged my mom to Times Square to go to the TKTS booth so that we could get tickets for a show that night [because I'm just a sucker for musicals and Broadway and that whole shebang]. I didn't really know what I wanted to watch but I remembered listening to something: the Rent Original Broadway Cast Recording. Just as I was looking around at all the big posters they had all over the buildings my gaze fell upon something very similar to *that movie poster*. Right then and there it was decided: we were going to watch Rent. We got the tickets, had a quick dinner over at the Golden Arches [aka McDo], then rushed over to the theater. Need less to say, I had the time of my life that night [though I did have to deal with my mom being scandalized with some themes in the play]
...
And THAT was how I turned myself into a Renthead. The second I knew there was a movie in the works I was just abuzz. I knew I had to watch it but I also knew that the chances of the movie being released here was pretty slim. I was pretty desperate to watch the film so I couldn't resist the temptation of buying a *pirated* DVD when I saw a copy of it in Makati Cinema Square. BUT oh my gosh was it worth it!

It's just a great modern story of love and friendship, joys and struggles and LIFE.

It gave justice to the play and added just the right amount of cinematic flair that it didn't overpower the storyline. The fact that they got most of the original cast to reprise their roles for the big screen was also a big plus in my eyes. The music was just as great, though they did have to do some altering to suit the changes they had to make to the flow of the story... and they deleted one of my favorite songs from the play! :( Well, it ended up as a deleted scene...
